Sizing & Washcare

Size guidelines

The clothing sizes have changed over the past 60 years and vintage items can vary from today's standardised clothing sizes. They may be different from your usual dress size, so we advise to check your measurements before ordering items. The following examples will help you to make the right measurements and to choose the right garment.

How to measure

To get the most accurate measurements we advise to ask someone else’s help to measure you. The measurement tape should be held straight and snug to your body.

Chest: measure the fullest part of your chest without pulling the tape measure too hard.

Waist: measure around the narrowest part of your waistline.

Hips: measure around the fullest part of your hip, before the thigh begins to narrow.

Inseam: measure from your ankle to your groin.

The following charts will help you to identify the right size for you.

Vintage Clothing Care Guide

Buying vintage online it is understood that the items have been worn so will show some signs of use. Therefore vintage items may have scratches in leather and metal, small pulls in silk, small discoloration in fabrics, small snags in lace and delicate fabrics.

We describe vintage conditions of the items as following:

Excellent: vintage item that looks like new with very little wear

Very good: a very good vintage quality that has very little signs of wear

Good: a good quality of vintage item that shows signs of wear and a few imperfections

Fair: the item shows signs of aging and wear and imperfections will be shown and explained in the item description

To avoid fading and deterioration of vintage garments it is important to keep them in a dry, dust-free place away from direct sunlight. Avoid storage of vintage garments in plastic bags to allow the fabrics breathe. Use wooden or padded hangers to avoid ruining the fabric at the shoulders, while fragile silk, knits and beaded items fold carefully instead of hanging them.

Washing Vintage Garments

  • We advice to read carefully the washing instructions on the labels where are available before taking any action of cleaning the items.

  • For very old or delicate fabrics make a good airing to remove odours.

  • Wool, silk, velvet and garments with beading hand wash or dry clean to avoid damaging the fabric.

  • If you decide to wash some garments in a washing machine use the option of 30 degrees delicate spin.
